Twitter bird

When a small team of developers was working on a communications service in which messages would be limited to 140 characters, they considered calling it Jitter or Twitch. One of the men, Noah Glass, scanned the dictionary and suggested Twitter, meaning, "a short inconsequential burst of information, chirps from birds." From there, what Twitter's mascot should be was obvious.

Twitter's bluebird has undergone several revisions over the past few years. The bird even has a name inspired by an American basketball legend: Larry. The bird's evolution can be seen here clockwise from the bottom left.
