Stick Guitar

Maker: Stick Enterprises
Based: Woodland Hills, Calif.
Price: $2,200

Emmett Chapman founded Stick Enterprises in 1974 and has been manufacturing what he calls "sticks"-electric instruments that resemble wide guitar fretboards-ever since. Players use a tapping technique with two hands, rather than strumming or picking. So far, the company has sold about 6,500 of the devices to musicians around the world, including members of the Blue Man Group. The company launched its newest model, dubbed the Stick Guitar, in 2008. It has 12 strings, giving guitarists the ability to play a range of notes.
