Pay-for-Play Model

Unlike the stateside medical school model, DeVry pays U.S. hospitals to take its students for the two years of clinical training that they need to complete their degree. The American Medical Association, however, opposes payments by schools for the rotations. Heidi Chumley, AUC's executive dean, says DeVry's practice of payments to hospitals for clinical training covers the revenue lost when a physician is less productive because he or she is teaching. "We should pay for this," she says.
