Megaupload's Mega Bust
At its peak, file-sharing host Megaupload.com claimed to have as many as 1 billion visitors to the site. But this was the year when Kim Dotcom's mega empire came crumbling down.
The U.S. Department of Justice shut down the website in January, calling it a piracy hotbed, and has since set its sights on the company's eccentric founder. From his extravagant New Zealand mansion, Dotcom has avoided extradition to the U.S. so far.
