What's the secret to Denmark's world-beating life satisfaction? It might be what they call hygge, translated loosely as coziness or comfort. Whatever the reason, Danes rated their own life satisfaction more highly than any other people in the OECD study, and more than three-quarters say they have more positive than negative experiences in an average day. Denmark also garners strong scores for work-life balance, community, and environment. Its ratings are much weaker for housing, which is relatively expensive, and for wealth and income.
