Samchillian Tip Tip Tip Cheeepeeeee

Maker: Leon Gruenbaum
Based: New York
Price: $15 (software, not including keyboard)

A computer keyboard-cum-digital instrument, the Samchillian Tip Tip Tip Cheeepeeeee is designed for playing the intervals between notes rather than the notes themselves, allowing users to play quickly and spontaneously in any scale or key without having to relearn fingering patterns, explains creator Leon Gruenbaum, a jazz pianist. "I am constantly surprised at the things that come out of my fingers on it," he says. After giving the software away for free for a few years, Gruenbaum started selling it for $15 this year. He expects an iPad app version to be available by March.
