There’s plenty to see downtown—like Pike Place Market, the Space Needle, and the original 1971 Starbucks—but there’s more elbow room in quirky, outlying neighborhoods such as West Seattle or Fremont. From the ferry terminal, it’s a spectacular 15-mile round-trip waterfront ride either south and west to West Seattle along Puget Sound (head for Alki Beach) or north and east through Fremont, toward Shilsole Marina, pictured, and public beach Golden Gardens.
