This week marks Yosemite National Park's 123rd birthday. It's celebrating alone, since the National Parks are closed until the shutdown ends.
Undeterred by the closures, 91 veterans visiting Washington from Mississippi ignored signs and barriers and entered the World War II memorial on the National Mall.
“It’s hard for us to see people not be let in,” Carol Johnson, a spokeswoman for the National Park Service’s National Mall and memorials division told reporters. “This memorial was built for them. And the last thing we want to is keep them from seeing it.”
