Obama's Pre-Inaugural Celebration

Barack Obama was sworn in as the country's first black president on Jan. 20, 2009, using Lincoln's bible. He spoke before the memorial two days earlier, on Jan. 18.

When he speaks Wednesday on the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington, Obama will stand as the heir to a civil rights movement defined by race even as he seeks to ensure his presidency is not remembered solely because of it, Bloomberg's Lisa Lerer reports.
