Jawbone UP
Who makes it: Jawbone
How much: $130
What it does: First released in 2011, the UP wristband disappeared for a year while the company scrambled to fix moisture-resistance problems. The rebooted version is simple and stylish, with a colorful iPhone app and the ability to count steps, measure sleep cycles and wake you silently. The big drawback: Data has to be transferred via a physical connection to the phone's audio port, which is odd for a company that made its name with Bluetooth wireless headsets.
