Threat of Child Porn
A business in Massachusetts was threatened in July with an unusual extortion attempt. According to the police, hackers had broken into the unspecified company's main server and planted an ominous message that opened any time workers tried to access computer files. The note demanded a $3,000 payment or the hackers would "send child pornography and spam purportedly from the business to police," according to the Salem News. The company alerted the police and dispatched a technician to clean the server.
