The world's seventh-biggest oil producer has been gradually cutting the subsidy it provides at the gas pump as a way to keep expenses in check and as an environmental measure to remove incentives for wasting gas.
Mexico relies on its northern neighbor to refine its crude into gasoline. The average daily income is $29. The share of a day's wages needed to buy a gallon of gas is 11 percent.
