7. Oracle

The world's largest database-software maker paid its engineers an average base salary of $122,905. The Redwood City, California-based company increased its workforce by 4.4 percent from a year ago, according to the latest data. Oracle gave CEO Larry Ellison a pay package worth $78.4 million for fiscal 2013, making him the highest-paid chief executive in the U.S. this year, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
