#21 Concepcion, Chile

Too much pollution can be the enemy of a good sunset. Coarse-particle pollutants are the worst, because they block the sun's rays instead of splintering them into color. Larger particles and overly dense concentrations of smaller particles basically act as a dimmer switch. So while urban sunsets may erupt with occasional splendor, a dull haze is more likely the norm.
