Nerua at the Bilbao Guggenheim

Frank Gehry designed the exterior of the Bilbao Guggenheim in northern Spain and his smooth aesthetic is also evident in its restaurant, Nerua, whose chef is nearly as lauded as the famous architect. Josean Alija entered the culinary world at just 17 and earned his stripes at the now-closed El Bulli. Nerua earned a Michelin star in its first year, along with other awards for Alija's avant-garde plates, like most artistic dish for his roast duck foie gras with candied carrots, and best dessert for cold juice with milk and anise ice cream.
