Eighteen percent of the top 50 U.S. technology companies cited the computer maker as a threat in their annual filings with the SEC. Hewlett-Packard and IBM were among the nine companies that listed Dell in the risk factors or competitors section of their 10-K reports.
Now that the Round Rock, Texas-based company is no longer publicly listed, Dell is expected to invest heavily in its security, networking and server businesses without having to worry about how that affects quarterly earnings expectations.
