Who makes it: Google

What it costs: $35

Why we like it: It's a streaming video device that's cheap, simple to install and easy to use, without even a separate remote to keep track of. Instead, you use your Android or Apple mobile device to locate content and direct it through the Chromecast and onto your TV. The programming sources are still sparse compared with Roku or Apple TV, but it does Netflix, Hulu Plus and YouTube, plus Google's own content stores. And it's a third the price of its competitors.
