The deal marks the end of the paper’s stewardship by the Graham family and its relatives, who acquired the Post in 1933.

It was on their watch that the newspaper covered a 1972 break-in at the Democratic National Headquarters at Washington's Watergate complex and subsequent cover-up, eventually leading President Richard Nixon to resign.
