Not What The Doctor Ordered

As medical devices such as insulin pumps and pacemakers go wireless, hackers have demonstrated the ability to interfere with these life-saving products in ways that could have lethal consequences. This year, security researcher Barnaby Jack of San Francisco showed how he could use an antenna to scan a public space from up to 300 feet away, find vulnerable insulin pumps made by Medtronic Inc. and force the devices to dispense fatal doses of insulin. Medtronic has hired security experts to inspect its products and is coordinating with the Department of Homeland Security to implement changes.
