Linux penguin

Linux, the underlying framework of many computing operating systems, is not exactly a mass-market product. But its former mascot, a penguin sitting lazily, managed to win fans. Stuffed animals and dog chew toys were modeled after the Linux penguin.

Linus Torvalds, the reclusive creator of Linux, laid out the technical specifications for the penguin, named Tux, in an Internet bulletin-board posting in 1996: It should be cute, cuddly, contented and have attitude, he wrote.
