In 2012, 39.1 percent of West Virginia's office-based doctors used basic electronic medical records. That's slightly lower than the national average of 39.6 percent.

Separately, in the same year, 50 percent of physicians actively used systems for electronically prescribing medications, a process that can reduce transcription errors.
