The Tequila Julep

Ken Fulk, San Francisco

As a native Virginian, interior and event designer Ken Fulk has a certain affinity for mint juleps. Fulk says, “This year for my birthday, I concocted a new drink combining the old-fashioned julep with my other love: a good tequila.” As an added touch, he had silver julep cups monogrammed with guests’ names.

2 oz. reposado tequila (we recommend Chamucos)
1 oz. fresh-squeezed lime juice
1 T agave syrup
12 mint leaves
Crushed ice
Drizzle of Cointreau
Mint sprig, to garnish

In a julep cup, gently muddle 12 mint leaves with agave syrup. Add tequila. Stir for 5 seconds. Add lime and scoop of crushed ice. Stir for 10 seconds. Top off with crushed ice, drizzle with Cointreau, and add mint sprig for garnish.
