A Murky Mess
Late last month, 50 tons of oil spilled into the sea at a mooring at the Map Ta Phut industrial estate in Thailand. PTT Global Chemical, the company responsible for the spill in the eastern province of Rayong, Thailand's navy and local residents are helping with the cleanup, Energy Minister Pongsak Raktapongpaisal said. As spills go, it wasn't a big one, but Ao Phrao beach on the island of Ko Samet is a tourist attraction, so the economic -- and environmental -- impact is considerable.
