First All-German Final

Bayern Munich, the record-breaking 2013 Bundesliga champion, takes on Borussia Dortmund at Wembley Stadium in London this weekend in the first all-German UEFA Champions League final. Bayern, which has won European soccer’s elite club competition four times, reached its third final in four seasons by beating tournament favorite Barcelona 7-0 over a two-match semifinal, while 1997 champion Dortmund defeated Real Madrid by a 4-3 aggregate score.

The European Cup, which began during the 1955-56 season, was rebranded the Champions League in 1992. As a result the tournament expanded, using a group phase and including more teams.

Here, we take a look back at some of the great moments in Champions League finals history, from 1993’s Marseille/Milan match to last season’s Chelsea victory over Bayern.
