Its 21 kilometers of new tunnels, nine new stations and high-frequency timetable will be vital in the city's constant battle to ease overcrowding on the already overstretched, 150-year-old subterranean infrastructure. The new line will link the financial hubs of the City and Canary Wharf to Heathrow airport and the city's suburbs, east and west.
