Urban Upstart
Chicago architect Jeanne Gang is on a mission to tackle population growth, climate change and the global legacy of hometown icon Frank Lloyd Wright. During the first half of the 20th century, Wright championed spread-out living, what is now known as urban sprawl, as the best way for people to enjoy nature. In the 21st century, Gang -- shown here near an open-air classroom she designed for Chicago's Lincoln Park -- says cities need to get denser and greener and to incorporate nature in the urban landscape.
