This was the year everything went mobile. Books, newspapers, movies, and photos all followed music up to the cloud and back down again onto an ever-expanding array of portable devices.
A lot of those gadgets bore the Apple logo, led by the spectacular success of the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S. But the year that saw Cupertino lose its guiding light in Steve Jobs also saw the continuing expansion of the Android universe, including the first tablets running the Google operating system. Even Amazon got into the act, recently launching its low-cost Kindle Fire.
