Bigger Isn't Always Best

You might think that more populated countries translate into more athletes competing for Olympic spots, resulting in a stronger team overall. In fact, it's Norway—with a population of just over 5 million—that's brought home the most awards at the Winter Olympics, with a grand total of 303 medals. (Norway's curling team has the snazziest uniforms, too). If you break it down per capita, the tiny country of Liechtenstein comes out on top, with 9 medals for its population of just over 37,000.
