An Aspiring Surgeon

One AUC student who expects to leave medical school with as much as $400,000 in debt is David Adams, 31, an aspiring pediatric cardiothoracic surgeon, shown here with his family. After being rejected by two dozen U.S. medical schools, Adams was accepted to AUC and moved to St. Maarten in January. He financed his first two semesters with $67,000 in U.S. government-backed loans.
