Monticello Motor Club | Monticello, New York

Overview: Two hours north of Manhattan, MMC attracts tri-state power brokers. The clubhouse, helipad and private garages are tucked discreetly into the curvaceous Catskills countryside. Comedian Jerry Seinfeld is a member.

Course: This track consists of 4.1 miles (6.6 kilometers) of rolling hills and descending dales. The back straightaway is three-quarters of a mile long -- 180-mile-per-hour speeds aren’t unheard of -- before falling over a blind crest. Will you keep the gas pedal pinned or give in to fear?

Difficulty: 7.5/10

Vehicle of choice: The light, fast Ferrari 430 Scuderia, which excels at both hairpin turns and hurtling straights

The catch: Overnight at your peril: There are no worthy hotels nearby.
