Barack Obama Inaugurated for Second Term

President Barack Obama took the oath of office on Jan. 20, to formally start a second term that will carry over many of the same battles from his first.

Obama was officially sworn in by U.S. Chief Justice John Roberts at 11:55 a.m. during a brief ceremony in the White House. He took the oath again yesterday outside the U.S. Capitol and delivered his inaugural address to thousands of people spread across the National Mall in Washington.

The celebration of Obama's inauguration is toned down compared with the festivities four years ago. Officials say they expect fewer than half of the 1.8 million people who attended in 2009. There is one official inaugural ball tonight, as well as the Commander-in-chief gala.
