Flip-Flop Sweat

A year after John Kerry voted to support the use of force in Iraq, he voted against an $87 billion supplement for U.S. troops there and in Afghanistan, and went on to explain, "I actually did vote for the $87 billion before I voted against it." That set off a spasm of campaign ads and sent legions of Bush supporters into the 2004 GOP convention crying "Flip-flop! Flip-flop!" and, for clarity, waving the offending footwear over their heads. At the Democratic Convention this year, Kerry accused Romney of flip-flopping, saying, "Before you debate Barack Obama on foreign policy, you'd better finish the debate with yourself."
