Trillion-Dollar Tuition

Student loan debt was projected to Occupy Thirteen Digits and hit a record $1 trillion by the end of 2011. Revised figures put out by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York in early December showed second-quarter student-loan debt at $845 billion. And as of Dec. 21, the Student Debt Loan Clock on FinAid.org, a site that provides college aid information, stood at $965.8 billion. The trillion-dollar milestone follows another dubious distinction last year. In June 2010, student-loan debt outpaced credit-card debt for the first time.
