Australia has scored consistently high since the first Doing Business study in 2005, improving its scores along the way in construction permitting, property transfers, taxes. It ranks highest in credit access, which stands at three. 

Australia passed a law in 2012 that strengthened its credit information system, enabling greater privacy protection to credit bureaus collecting account payment histories. 

It lags several other English-speaking nations in the strength of its investor protections, particularly when it comes to the extent to which directors can be held liable. Left: Sydney.
