Conservative radio commentator Rush Limbaugh put his foot in his mouth in March, when he called law student Sandra Fluke a "slut" and "prostitute" for having advocated health insurance coverage for contraception. Following an uproar, Limbaugh apologized on air and in a statement on his website. "My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir." The national stir included a call from President Barack Obama to Fluke, offering his support. Limbaugh lost several station outlets and more than 100 advertisers as a result of his comments.
