Firefox fox

Firefox, the popular Web browser, was originally called Firebird. Mozilla preferred the fox. "It sounds good. It's unique. We like it. And we weren't able to find any other project or company even remotely similar," the company wrote on its site.

A fox is fast, and presumably one that's on fire is faster. Fire fox is also a nickname for a red panda, a forest mammal native to the eastern Himalayas and southwestern China. Look it up. It's adorable.
