President George W. Bush famously gave Angela Merkel a surprise shoulder rub at the 2006 G-8 summit in St. Petersburg, Russia, sending the German chancellor's arms flying up in the air. Clips of the pop-up massage went viral. Asked in 2008 if she expected a spa treatment from presidential candidates John McCain or Barack Obama, Merkel deadpanned, "I wouldn't resist."
