A truck fitted with high-pressure nozzles sprays the highway in an evacuated mountain village between Tsushima and Yamakiya on the Tomioka Highway in an effort to reduce radiation levels. This district sits in an area designated as having received from 20 milli-seiverts to 50 milli-seiverts of radiation. (The normal annual radiation dose from natural sources is 2.4 milli-seiverts.) The government has begun the decontamination process here.
