In 2011, Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales spearheaded a movement to make the online encyclopedia the first “digital World Heritage site.” Wales claimed Wikipedia should be recognized as a “pioneer of cultural change” for spreading information freely around the world. Although his campaign proved unsuccessful, we’d certainly appreciate a World Heritage site we could visit anywhere in the world!
