Sustainability Is a Conspiracy

Legislators in states including Kansas have recently proposed or passed laws to ban “sustainable development.” The proposed decrees define the practice as “development in which resource use aims to meet human needs while preserving the environment so that these needs can be met not only in the present, but also for generations to come.”

Why should sustainable development be banned? Because it’s a conspiracy, that’s why. Just ask the Flat Earth Society, which sees sustainable development as an attack on freedom and democracy. The legislative efforts are backed by a deep distrust of Agenda 21, a nonbinding United Nations proposal from 1992 -- never ratified by the U.S. -- which proposes ways that people can work together to solve some of the problems that can’t be solved alone.

Flat Earth translation: a socialist plot to dupe people into giving up their right to poison the air and water. You’ve been warned.
