Engineer and guitarist Cliff Elion wanted to build a digital guitar that could take advantage of music software designed for keyboard players. The You Rock Guitar, which started shipping in 2010, can be used with software such as GarageBand, and music production software including Cubase, Sonar, Reason, and Pro Tools. The guitar has built-in samples such as guitar and piano and can control other virtual instruments with software. Inspired Instruments' Vice-President of Marketing and Operations Chasey Elion says, "The You Rock Guitar is to guitar players what the keyboard synthesizer was to piano players."
