New York Botanical Garden

Also in the Bronx, the city's biggest botanical garden destination sprawls over 250 acres that include a native forest, an herb garden, a rose garden, a rock garden, a children's "adventure" garden, and a wetland trail. The focal point is the all-glass, Victorian-style Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, as well as a rotating series of spectacular exhibitions. Through September look for an Italian Renaissance garden, presented as part of an exhibition about the way plants are used as medicine around the world.

Visit: The garden is open from 10 am to 6 pm, Tuesday to Sunday; tickets are available through the NYBG's ticketing site.
