Amazon Web Services, one of the most popular cloud providers, suffered a high-profile outage on Christmas Eve in 2012, knocking out its well-known customer, Netflix. The video-streaming service, which uses AWS to help deliver movies and TV shows to its users, was disrupted for several hours. The snafu generated scathing criticism from consumers on social media. Amazon blamed human error.

The case showed that you don't want to be the one responsible for leaving families stuck without their digital entertainment, especially during those unbearable holiday gatherings.
