Collecting water takes people in the developing world an immense amount of time and energy, a burden that falls disproportionately on women.
Hippo Rollers combine water transportation with wheel-barrel technology. Rolling the water in a drum makes 200 pounds of water feel like 22. Each device transports 24 gallons of water, replacing the commonly used 5-gallon buckets. The rugged container is designed for hygienic storage and for bouncing along rough terrain. The steel handle allows the user to push or pull the drum.
As of December 2011, approximately 38,000 Hippo Rollers have been distributed in 17 countries, directly benefiting more than 250,000 people.
