AlphaSphere

Maker: nu desine
Based: Bristol, U.K.
Price: Hasn't set a price

Still in development, the AlphaSphere emits sounds when a user presses on the soft pads covering its dome-shaped body. Hoping to create a new way for musicians to interact with software to make music, Adam Place developed a prototype of the device in 2007 while studying music and visual art at Bristol University. He established nu desine in September 2010 to commercialize the invention and has attracted about £50,000 in funding and grants. He hopes to start selling the instrument in mid-2012 and to introduce a toy version by Christmas of the following year.
