The Bump reaches various expectant and new parents across its Web and mobile experience, plus through its localized print magazines. The Nest: The Nest is the brand focused exclusively on young nesters setting up homes and navigating new lives together. The site takes a hip, how-to approach to all things ‘grown up’, such as merging finances, buying and decorating homes, entertaining and more through content, expert Q&As, online community, and interactive tools. Services The company reaches its audience through various platforms, including online properties, mobile applications, magazines and books, and television and video, which are available for all brands, with the exception of mobile applications, television, and magazines for its Nest brand. The company’s four products comprise: National Online Advertising: The company’s national digital advertising products include, but are not limited to, sponsored and brand-integrated content, digital banner advertisements, native banner advertising, and direct email marketing. Local Online Advertising: The company’s local products include, but are not limited to, digital advertisements and direct email marketing. As of December 31, 2014, its platforms hosted approximately 250,000 free and paid local profile listings in approximately 80 local markets highlighting offerings for approximately 30 categories of wedding planning services. Registry and Commerce: The company’s Website allows couples the opportunity to create, manage, and share multiple retail store registries from a single source. For its commerce partners, the company identifies and integrates product and service providers that address its couples' needs, such as invitations and stationery, reception decor and personalized gifts, and health and beauty. The company receives advertising spend and commission payments from sales that it generates through its sites, email, and mobile apps. Publishing and Other: The company publishes traditional magazines for its primary brand, The Knot; and the company’s pregnancy and parenting brand, The Bump. The Bump magazine is distributed semi-annually through OB/GYN offices in 20 U.S. markets. Dispositions In 2014, the company completed the disposition of its China wedding content and publishing operations (Ijie) to PUM Development Co, Ltd. and Novel Horizon Ventures Limited. Strategy The company’s strategy is to pursue various initiatives, such as expanding local marketplace; improving the bump; improving registry and partner based commerce; maintaining steady growth rates in publishing; and continuously examining its business. Seasonality The company believes that the impact of the frequency of weddings varying from quarter to quarter results in lower registry services and merchandise revenues in the first and fourth quarters (year ended December 2014). The company’s publishing business typically experiences a quarter to quarter revenue decline in the first and third quarters due to the cyclical pattern of its regional publishing schedule.
