Mobile Services The company’s mobile services consist of global system for mobile communications (GSM), 3G and 4G services. The company’s mobile services primarily consist of mobile voice services and mobile non-voice services. Its mobile voice services enable its subscribers to make and receive phone calls, including local calls, domestic long-distance calls, international long-distance calls, intra-provincial roaming, inter-provincial roaming and international roaming, with a mobile handset at any point within the coverage area of its mobile telecommunications networks. The company’s mobile non-voice services primarily include wireless Internet, mobile reading, mobile music, ‘WO App Store’, SMS, ‘Cool Ringtone’ (a personalized ring-back tone service) and other wireless information services. Subscribers of Mobile Services: As of December 31, 2015, the company’s total number of mobile subscribers included 286.66 million, and its total number of mobile billing subscribers included 252.32 million. As of December 31, 2015, the total number of the company’s 4G subscribers included 44.16 million. Fixed-Line Services The company is a primary fixed-line broadband and communications operator in northern China. The company offers a range of fixed-line services nationwide in China, including fixed-line broadband services and data communications services; fixed-line voice services, include local and long-distance fixed-line voice services and value-added services; and other services. Fixed-Line Broadband Services and Data Communications Services Fixed-Line Broadband Services: The company provides fixed-line broadband services in its fixed-line northern service region. As of December 31, 2015, the company’s fixed-line broadband subscribers included 72.33 million. Data Communications Services: The company provides data communications services in its fixed-line northern service region. It offers data products, such as those based on digital data networks, frame relay, asynchronous transfer mode and Internet protocol-virtual private network. The company also offers leased line products, including domestic and international leased circuits. Its customers for these services include government entities, large financial institutions and other domestic and multinational businesses, Internet service providers and other telecommunications operators. In 2015, the company continued to offer full-scale data communications services to international operators and domestic and international corporate customers. Fixed-Line Voice Services The company’s fixed-line voice services consist of local voice, domestic long-distance, international long-distance, interconnection and PHS services. The company’s fixed-line subscribers (including PHS subscribers) included 73.86 million as of December 31, 2015. Local Voice Services: The total usage of the company’s local calls was 59,084 million times in 2015. Long-Distance Voice Services: The company offers traditional long-distance services and VoIP long-distance services. Total minutes of domestic long-distance calls carried through the company’s long-distance networks for the year ended December 31, 2015 were 12,707 million. Unicom Group is the registered proprietor in China of the ‘Unicom’ trademark in English and the trademark bearing the Unicom logo. Unicom Group is also the registered proprietor of the trademark of the word ‘Unicom’ in Chineseo. Unicom Group has granted the company the right to use these trademarks on a royalty-free basis with periodic renewals, and licensed the company any trademark that it registers in China in the future which incorporates the word Unicom. Significant Events In July 2016, ZTE Corporation announced with China Unicom that they have signed a strategic cooperation agreement on Software Defined Network (SDN)/Network Function Virtualization (NFV). Both parties aim to build-on current SDN/NFV network development trends through collaborative innovation, implement SDN/NFV applications, and promote the next-generation network construction for China Unicom, meeting customers demands, and promoting network transformation, business innovation, and service upgrade. In August 2016, ZTE Corporation announced that a signing for a strategic cooperation agreement on joint 5G and Internet of Things (IoT) innovation has been held with China Unicom. China Unicom and ZTE would work together to develop cooperative projects and conduct research on application scenarios, product demands, service applications, market development and other related fields. History The company was founded in 2000. It was incorporated under the laws of Hong Kong in 2000 under the Companies Ordinance as a company limited by shares under the name China Unicom Limited. In 2008, the company changed its name to China Unicom (Hong Kong) Limited.
