Strategies The company’s strategy to improve its vacation exchange and rentals business profitability includes inspiring associate engagement and ‘Count On Me!’ service; investing in technology to improve the customer experience and market share; offering various options through market and product expansion, and by leveraging the scale of its inventory across brands; leveraging analytics to improve yield across its portfolio and improve key business processes; and promoting the benefits of timeshare and vacation rentals to new and existing customer segments. Seasonality Vacation exchange revenues are highest in the first quarter (year ending December 2014), which is when members of RCI plan and book their vacations for the year. Rental transaction revenues earned are highest in the third quarter, when vacation arrivals are highest, combined with a compressed booking window, such as a reduction of the time between the booking date and the arrival date. Approximately 60% of the company’s European vacation rental customers book their reservations within 11 weeks of arrival dates and approximately 75% within 20 weeks of arrival dates. Vacation Ownership segment This segment includes Wyndham Vacation Ownership, a major timeshare (also known as vacation ownership) business based on the number of resorts, units, and owners. The company develops and markets VOIs to individual consumers, provide consumer financing in connection with the sale of VOIs, and provide property management services at resorts to property owners’ associations. Wyndham Vacation Ownership As of December 31, 2014, the company had 203 vacation ownership resorts in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and the South Pacific that represent approximately 24,000 individual vacation ownership units and approximately 904,000 owners of VOIs. The company’s brands operate points-based vacation ownership programs through which VOIs could be redeemed for vacations that provide owners with flexibility as to resort location, length of stay, number of stays, unit type, and time of year. The company’s programs allow the company to market and sell its vacation ownership products in variable quantities and to offer existing owners ‘upgrade’ sales to supplement such owners’ existing VOIs. This contrasts with the fixed quantity of the traditional fixed-week vacation ownership, which is primarily sold on a weekly interval basis. Although the company operates separate brands, it has integrated all of the business functions, including consumer finance, information technology, staff functions, product development, and marketing activities. Vacation Ownership Brands Club Wyndham: As of December 31, 2014, approximately 524,000 owners held interests in Club Wyndham resort properties, which were located primarily in the U.S. and consisted of 94 resorts (22 of which are shared with WorldMark by Wyndham and 1 of which is shared with Shell Vacations LLC (Shell)) that represented approximately 13,700 units. The majority of the resorts in which Club Wyndham markets and sells vacation ownership and other real estate interests are destination resorts located at or near attractions, such as the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida; the Las Vegas Strip in Nevada; Myrtle Beach in South Carolina; Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia; and the Hawaiian Islands. WorldMark by Wyndham WorldMark by Wyndham is a club that offers a credit-based system.
