The company’s utility customer base is diversified among residential water, commercial water, fire protection, industrial water, other water, wastewater customers, and other utility customers. Its water utility operations obtain their water supplies from surface water sources, underground aquifers, and water purchased from other water suppliers. Its water supplies are primarily self supplied and processed at 20 surface water treatment plants located in 4 states, and various well stations located in all of the states in which the company conducts business. Regulation The company is primarily subject to economic regulation by various state regulatory commissions, including Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission, The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, Illinois Commerce Commission, North Carolina Utilities Commission, New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission, and Virginia State Corporation Commission.
