Segments The company manages its business in three segments: Medicaid Health Plans, Medicare Health Plans, and Medicare PDPs. Medicaid Health Plans This segment includes plans for beneficiaries of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, Supplemental Security Income, and Aged Blind and Disabled programs and other state-based programs that are not part of the Medicaid program, such as Children's Health Insurance Program and Managed Long-Term Care. For purposes of this segment, the company defines its customer as the state and related governmental agencies that have common control over the contracts under which the company operates in that particular state. As of January 1, 2016, the company was the primary Medicaid health plan by membership in Florida, Georgia, and Kentucky. The Medicaid programs and services that the company offers to its members are designed to serve its constituencies in the communities in which the company operates. The company’s Medicaid plans provide its members with access to a spectrum of medical benefits from primary care and preventive programs to full hospitalization and long-term care. In 2014, the company executed a contract with the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration to provide managed care services to Medicaid recipients in 8 of the state’s 11 regions as part of the state’s Managed Medical Assistance program. The company offers Medicaid managed care in five counties in New Jersey. In addition, the company’s New Jersey subsidiary completed the acquisition of Medicaid assets from Healthfirst Health Plans of New Jersey, Inc., which primarily relate to approximately 42,000 Healthfirst Medicaid members and certain provider agreements. As of January 1, 2016, the company served approximately 2,392,000 Medicaid members. Medicare Health Plans This segment contracts with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) under the Medicare program to provide a range of Part C and Part D benefits to Medicare eligible persons, through the company’s MA plans. The company’s MA plans include CCPs, which are administered through health maintenance organizations (HMOs) and generally require members to seek health care services and select a primary care provider from a network of health care providers.
